Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the association between sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, and health conditions in relation to the level of activation of people with type 1 and 2 diabetes. Methods: Carried out in Primary Health Care in a city in Minas Gerais, from August/2022 to June/2023. 120 people aged between 18 and 70 years participated. The activation measure was measured by the 13-item Patient Activation Measure® scale and questionnaires for sociodemographic, lifestyle, and health condition data. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's chi-square test, and Poisson regression. Results: There was an association between a higher level of activation and retired/pensioner individuals or those who worked outside the home, among individuals who performed self-monitoring of blood glucose levels and among those who had already suffered an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Individuals with obesity had a lower level of activation and participants in economic classes B1 and B2 had a lower prevalence of high activation than participants in classes D and E. Conclusion: The association between the level of activation and the factors occupation, nutritional status, income, AMI and self-monitoring of blood glucose levels indicates the need for intervention to increase self-care practices in people with diabetes.
