Abstract

Objective: To analyze the available evidence in the scientific literature on the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) in reducing pain and improving the quality of life of adult patients with chronic pain. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted through the PubMED, Virtual Health Library (VHL), and CAPES Periodicals databases, using the descriptors: "Cannabidiol," "Chronic Pain," and "Adults," and obtaining the search truncation: (Cannabidiol) AND (Chronic Pain) AND (Adults). A total of 343 articles were found, filtered according to inclusion criteria (Portuguese, English, and Spanish; published between 2020 and 2025; full articles) and exclusion criteria (duplicate articles, abstracts, out-of-scope articles). Results: Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabis-derived compound that has been studied as an alternative therapeutic treatment for chronic pain in adults, showing analgesic effects, improved quality of life, and a potential reduction in opioid use. Final considerations: Cannabidiol (CBD) has demonstrated positive effects in managing chronic pain in adults, with reduced opioid use and a low incidence of adverse effects, although more robust studies are still needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.
