Abstract

Objective: To analyze, through the literature, nurses' knowledge of the criteria used for organ donation. Methods: Integrative review conducted in the BDENF, MEDLINE, and LILACS databases. The following strategy was used to search for articles: “knowledge” AND “nurses” AND “tissue and organ procurement.” Original quantitative or qualitative studies published between 2015 and 2025 in Portuguese, English, or Spanish were included. The PRISMA flowchart was used for selection. Results: Twelve studies from eight countries were selected. The results showed significant gaps in nurses’ knowledge, especially regarding the diagnosis of brain death, maintenance of donor potential, and ethical and legal aspects involving organ donation. Final considerations: The need for technical, emotional, and ethical training programs is reinforced, in addition to the inclusion of the topic in academic curricula and continuing education.
