Abstract

Objetive: To assess the epidemiological profile and knowledge of pregnant and postpartum women regarding oral health, as well as the effectiveness of educational actions carried out by dental students in Primary Health Care. Methods: A cross-sectional, quantitative with 33 women and 20 dental students. Questionnaires and educational lectures on breastfeeding and oral hygiene were applied, evaluating knowledge before and after the interventions. Results: Most participants showed low education levels, socioeconomic vulnerability, and lack of knowledge about their own and their babies’ oral care. After the interventions, there was a significant improvement in learning and adherence to preventive practices, as well as an increase in dental care attendance. Conclusion: The educational actions proved effective in expanding knowledge about oral health and strengthening the integration between teaching, health services, and the community, reinforcing the importance of the dentist’s and students’ roles with pregnant and postpartum women.
