Abstract
Objective: To identify the main nursing care practices in the management of preoperative anxiety in the literature. Methods: This is an integrative review of articles published between 2020 and 2025, in English and Portuguese, and available in full. The following research question was used: "What are the main nursing care practices in the management of preoperative anxiety?". The literature search was conducted in May 2025 in the PUBMED, LILACS, and BVS databases, using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Anxiety; Perioperative Nursing; Preoperative Care. The search was conducted using the English descriptors combined using the Boolean operator "AND." Results: After selection, 15 articles were identified, which highlighted non-pharmacological interventions performed by nurses in the management of preoperative anxiety in adult and pediatric patients, with interventions focused on teaching and relaxation for adults and playful activities for children. Final considerations: The study results demonstrate that non-pharmacological interventions are effective strategies for managing preoperative anxiety in adult and pediatric patients. In this context, nurses play a key role in implementing these practices, as they are key players in promoting humanized, comprehensive care focused on individual needs.
