Abstract

Objective: to compare the perception of graduates and physicians with more experience about the work and training of general practitioners, especially in light of the experience on the front line during the pandemic. Methods: qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study that used an online form as an instrument for data collection. Two groups of participants were formed: the first, formed by medical graduates who worked on the front line in the care of patients with Covid-19; the second, by more experienced doctors who also provided care to patients with Covid-19 and assisted medical graduates in the care of these patients. The content analysis technique was used for data analysis. Results: the majority of graduates considered their work in caring for patients with Covid-19 to be satisfactory, although they were less prepared for serious cases. This was also the opinion of experienced doctors. Fear, anxiety and insecurity shared space with positive feelings such as empathy and satisfaction. Conclusion: most medical graduates positively evaluated their performance during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the same perception of more experienced doctors. It is inferred that the pandemic has accentuated the deficiencies in medical education regarding the practical skills for approaching and managing critically ill patients.
