Abstract
Objective: To list the main integrative and complementary practices used in the care of breast cancer patients and their outcomes. Methods: This is an integrative literature review. Using a search strategy with descriptors and Boolean terms, complementary therapies AND breast cancer (alternative term) AND nursing OR nurse, 69 articles were searched in the VHL and the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. Nine articles were retrieved. Bardin content analysis was performed. Results: Breast cancer patients are experiencing improvements in psychosocial health, pain and fatigue mitigation, and reduced adverse effects with the use of PICS. Complementary practices used include acupuncture, massage, aromatherapy, music therapy, yoga, meditation, relaxation through guided visualization, homeotherapy. Final considerations: It can be considered that PICS are increasingly used by patients with breast cancer, resulting in improvements in stress and insomnia, and a better quality of life. Therefore, nurses are among the healthcare professionals qualified to manage PICS.
