Abstract

Objective: To understand the perceptions of primary care health teams about the role of pharmacists in the Basic Health Units (BHUs) of the municipality of Santarém, Pará, Brazil. Methods: This is a descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, involving interviews with semi-structured questions with the aim of identifying the perceptions of health professionals working in the UBS of the municipality of Santarém-PA about the role of the pharmacist in primary care. Results: Based on the participants' statements, a profile of the interviewees was built and then the results emerged, which were organized. Some of the professionals interviewed showed that they knew very little about the pharmacist's duties in the UBS, mainly due to the absence of this professional in PHC. Conclusion: This study showed that the multi-professional team is unaware of the pharmaceutical services provided within a UBS, and that the interviewees' perception of the pharmacist is associated only with dispensing, purchasing and storing medicines.
