Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the influence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination over eight years in the state of Goiás, on the number of diagnosed cases of cervical cancer (CCU). Methods: This was an ecological and retrospective study with a quantitative approach, using data from DATASUS regarding HPV immunization and CCU diagnoses in Goiás between 2014 and 2022. For data extraction and analysis, TABNET and TABWIN were utilized, while the chi-square goodness-of-fit test was employed for variable association. Results: High rates of HPV immunization were observed in 2014 and 2015, coinciding with lower percentages of CCU diagnoses. From 2016 onwards, a progressive vaccination decline was noted, alongside na increase/stabilization in the number of CCU cases, suggesting an inverse association between immunization and disease incidence. Statistical significance was revealed between HPV vaccination and CCU incidence in Goiás and Anápolis (p<0.0001), indicating that higher vaccination adherence coincided with a reduction in diagnoses. Conclusion: Despite limitations encountered during data collection, the results highlight the importance of immunization and effective strategies in CCU prevention.
