Abstract
Objective: To report a clinical case of aesthetic rehabilitation of a darkened dental element through the association of dental whitening and the creation of a direct composite resin veneer. Case details: Patient, a 51-year-old female, came to the dental clinic of the University of Fortaleza (Unifor) dissatisfied with her smile due to the darkening of the upper left central incisor (tooth 21). During the anamnesis, she reported that this discoloration occurred after endodontic treatment, but the patient did not know when this procedure was performed. Therefore, a periapical radiograph of the tooth in question was performed, in which endodontic treatment with excess endodontic cement on the dental crown was observed. The treatment plan proposed observing the tooth's response to three sessions of internal/external whitening, with in-office whitening gel, and then proceeding with the restorative trial and creation of a direct composite resin veneer to mask the darkened substrate. Final considerations: The integrated approach, which includes internal and external bleaching followed by layering with composite resin in the creation of direct veneers, offered an aesthetic and satisfactory solution for the treatment of the darkened tooth, contributing to the patient's self-esteem and quality of life.
