Abstract

Objective: To analyze in the scientific literature the outcomes of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) in adults patients affected by COVID-19. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted in the PubMed, (LILACS), and (SCIELO) databases, with a sample composed of nine articles. The Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine/Oxford was used to classify the level of evidence of the included studies, and the results were subjected to descriptive analysis. Results: In the nine articles included in the review, outcomes of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome after COVID-19 were identified and grouped into three categories: physical outcomes: fatigue, pain, dyspnea, impaired muscle strength, impaired gait and balance, weakness, difficulty performing usual activities, reduced mobility, and frailty; psychological/cognitive outcomes: depression/anxiety, insomnia, and post-traumatic stress disorder; deficits in executive functions, processing speed, and recognition memory, as well as attention deficits and learning alterations. Final considerations: Physical, psychological, and cognitive outcomes are present in adult patients with (PICS) affected by COVID-19, indicating the need for post-discharge follow-up, preferably by a multidisciplinary team, aiming at improving the quality of life.
