Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of pediatricians from Paraná, Brazil, regarding Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and the use of the Beighton Scale as a clinical tool for screening generalized joint hypermobility. Methods: An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was conducted through an electronic questionnaire distributed by the Paraná Society of Pediatrics. The instrument included questions on awareness of hEDS, application of the Beighton Scale, and the relationship between hypermobility and musculoskeletal pain. Of the 25 invitations sent, 10 were answered, resulting in a 40% response rate. Results: It was found that 38% of pediatricians were familiar with hEDS, 22% used the Beighton Scale, and 46% recognized the association between hypermobility and musculoskeletal pain. The findings reveal a lack of professional training and limited familiarity with simple and effective diagnostic tools for early screening. Conclusion: It is necessary to strengthen education on collagen disorders and joint hypermobility in medical training and continuing education programs, promoting earlier diagnosis, preventive physiotherapeutic intervention, and improved quality of life for pediatric patients.
