Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the possible correlation between the number of hospitalizations for Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in Brazil and temperature anomalies in the southern hemisphere between 2014 and 2023. Methods: Retrospective ecological study with secondary data from DATASUS (hospitalizations for AMI) and GISTEMP/NASA (annual temperature anomalies). Pearson and Spearman correlation tests were applied, in addition to simple linear regression. Results: Although hospitalizations increased over the period, there was no statistically significant correlation with temperature anomalies. Linear regression analysis indicated a coefficient of determination (R²) of only 0.049, suggesting a limited influence of temperature on hospitalizations. Conclusion: The results do not indicate a significant relationship between the mean annual temperature and hospitalizations for AMI in Brazil. Studies with greater temporal resolution and control of confounding variables are needed to better understand the effects of climate on cardiovascular health.
