Abstract
Objective: To analyze mental health indicators and the male morbidity and mortality profile among individuals aged 20 to 59 in Brazil between 2009 and 2024. Methods: This is a retrospective, analytical, observational, and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, using data collected from the public online DATASUS platform. Results: Regarding the mental health indicator, self-inflicted violence, substance abuse, and mental disorders were identified as the main causes of male morbidity and mortality. Regarding the morbidity and mortality profile, external causes, such as injuries and violence, were responsible for the highest male hospitalization rates, mainly among younger men (20 to 39 years old), while chronic circulatory and digestive diseases predominated among older men (50 to 59 years old). Conclusion: These trends remained stable throughout the analyzed period, revealing persistent public health challenges. Promoting mental health, preventing violence, and reducing chronic diseases requires intersectoral strategies, attention to social inequalities, and encouraging behavioral change. Psychology, as part of primary health care, plays a central role in promoting self-care, healthy aging, and expanding access to health services.
