Abstract

Objective: To describe hysterectomies performed via videolaparoscopic (VLH) and vaginal (VH) approaches. Methods: Ecological, descriptive, and time-series study, based on secondary data obtained from the SUS Hospital Information System for the Southeast region, from 2013 to 2023. The variables analyzed included the number of hospitalizations for VHL and VHL, mortality rate, mean length of hospital stay, and the mean value per hospitalization, assessed for normality, homogeneity, and significance. Results: A total of 26,257 VHL and 2,966 VHL were performed. The mortality rate was 0.04% for VHL and 0.03% for VHL. The mean length of hospital stay was 2.4 days for VH and 2.5 days for HVL, resulting in an additional cost of 8.16% per hospitalization for HVL. The analyses indicated that there were no significant differences between the techniques regarding mortality, length of hospital stay, and cost (p>0.05). Conclusion: The vaginal route tends to be more advantageous, taking into account the need for greater investment and infrastructure in HVL.
