Abstract

Objective: To analyze the profile of non-motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Methods: Cross-sectional quantitative observational study with 53 patients of both sexes and ages between 43 and 85 years, evaluated through a questionnaire on non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, including dysphagia, dysphonia, hyposmia, hypoacusis, imbalance, speech and language alterations, sleep disorders, and cognitive deficit, and through standardized scales (Hoehn and Yahr Scale and Epworth Sleepiness Scale). Results: There was a predominance of females (64.2%), with 67.9% aged ≥60 years and 94.3% literate. The mean duration of symptoms was 5.5 years, with prevalence of sleep disorders (86.8%), dysphagia (75.5%), speech disorders (66%), language alterations (41%), hypoacusis (34%), and balance alterations (36.5%), as well as nutritional and cognitive complications. Statistical analysis indicated a non-normal distribution of sleepiness and disease progression scores, with no significant correlation between motor severity and daytime sleepiness. Conclusion: Non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are prevalent, increasing disease morbidity and reducing quality of life. This knowledge is important for individualized management and rehabilitation of this population.
