Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the influence of circadian cycle inversion, caused by night work, on the erectile function of workers across different age groups, also considering possible physiological and occupational mechanisms involved. The study seeks to understand the physiological impacts related to erectile dysfunction in these individuals. Methods: A standardized questionnaire was applied to 303 male participants, of whom 3 were excluded due to incompatibility with the desired sample. The study included 78 workers exposed to night shifts and 222 not exposed. Participants were distributed into six age groups, and the collected data were statistically analyzed using the p-value to identify potential associations between night-work exposure and erectile function. Results: The analysis, considering all age groups and both categories, showed a p-value of 0.0789. This result indicated no statistical significance to reject the null hypothesis, demonstrating that there was no meaningful association between night work and erectile function. Conclusion: Circadian cycle inversion resulting from night work did not show a significant influence on erectile function among the evaluated participants. However, the findings reinforce the need for further research that includes hormonal variables, exposure duration, chronotype, and psychosocial factors as potential mediators of this relationship.
