Abstract

Objective: To analyze dengue mortality in the State of São Paulo between 2021 and 2024, identifying temporal trends, age distribution of deaths, and factors associated with lethality, focusing on the vulnerability of the elderly population. Methods: The method used was a descriptive and retrospective quantitative study, based on secondary epidemiological surveillance data extracted from Tabnet (SINAN) in May 2025. The analysis involved the total number of reported cases with clinical outcomes of death and their age distribution. Results: The results revealed a significant and worrying increase in mortality, jumping from 69 deaths in 2021 to 2,200 in 2024, a growth of 648%. The greatest vulnerability was observed among the elderly, especially the group aged 70 or older, which concentrated the highest number of deaths from 2022 onwards. The temporal distribution showed a concentration of deaths in the months of April and May in all years analyzed. Conclusion: The final results indicate that dengue fever in the elderly is marked by a higher risk of death, requiring specific protocols and intensified surveillance. Reducing mortality depends on integrated and intersectoral strategies that prioritize prevention, control of Aedes aegypti, and rigorous monitoring of the elderly population.
