Training in integrative community therapy in Brazil: profile of trainers, training conditions, and perspectives on the hybrid modality

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the profile of Integrative Community Therapy (ICT) trainers in Brazil and to present the perception of the creator of ICT on hybrid training. Methods: This is a descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. A questionnaire was administered to the trainers, and an interview was conducted with the creator of ICT. Descriptive and thematic analyses were used to analyze the quantitative and qualitative data, respectively. Results: The average age of the trainers was 61 years (SD = 11). Additionally, 83.4% had postgraduate degrees, 88.9% were coordinators of ICT centers, and 86.1% were female. Approximately 70% self-financed their training at private institutions. The Southeast region had the largest number of training centers, accounting for 48.7% of the total. The interviewee views hybrid training as positive in terms of accessibility, although physical distancing hinders certain dynamics. He also highlighted the importance of "retraining," as training requires adjustments over time. Conclusion: For the continuity and expansion of ICT, it is important to maintain training courses in hybrid and in-person modalities, encourage young people to become trainers, and ensure the presence of ICT centers in all regions of the country.
