Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of cancer patients regarding low-level laser therapy in the treatment of oral mucositis, as well as dental care in the hospital setting. Methods: A cross-sectional, quantitative study was conducted in a private hospital in the city of Maceió, with 21 patients undergoing antineoplastic therapies. Data collection was carried out using structured questionnaires administered in person. As a complementary instrument, a literature review was conducted for theoretical support. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: A significant improvement in quality of life and pain relief was observed after the use of photobiomodulation as adjuvant therapy. However, patients showed a lack of knowledge regarding the role of hospital dentistry and the existence of laser therapy in the prevention and treatment of mucositis. Conclusion: Laser therapy proved to be effective, safe, and with the potential to promote better clinical outcomes in cancer patients, reinforcing the need for integrated dental care within multidisciplinary teams.
