Abstract
Objective: To analyze the available scientific evidence regarding the factors associated with the occurrence of obstetric violence. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted using the PICO strategy. Searches were conducted in the Lilacs, Medline via PubMed, and Web of Science databases, without language or time period restrictions. Of the 445 studies initially identified, 29 met the inclusion criteria. Results: Three thematic categories emerged: structural and institutional factors; social inequalities, gender, and intersectionalities; and implications for overcoming obstetric violence. The studies addressed structural, organizational, or systemic aspects, the naturalization of obstetric violence, social and gender inequalities, the prevalence of the phenomenon, consequences for women, and specific types of obstetric violence. Final considerations: Obstetric violence reflects social, cultural, and institutional inequalities that permeate health systems. Addressing it requires an ethical and political commitment to promoting equity and humanized care.
