Abstract
Objective: To analyze the degree of hepatic fibrosis in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), using transient hepatic elastography (THE or FibroScan®) in a group of patients treated at the Hepatology Outpatient Clinic of the Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará. Methods: This is a longitudinal, prospective, and observational study, conducted through the application of a structured questionnaire. Patients over 18 years of age, of both sexes, and with a diagnosis defined by ICD-10 as Fatty (Change) Degeneration of Liver, Not Elsewhere Classified (K76.0), were included. Results: Patients with moderate/severe steatosis presented significantly higher body mass index (BMI) and liver stiffness values. The controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) was also significantly higher in groups with advanced fibrosis (F3–F4). BMI showed a significant association with steatosis in the logistic regression analysis. No variable was significantly associated with fibrosis in the regression model. Finally, the model explained 26.1% of the variance in the steatosis outcome. Conclusion: BMI and CAP proved to be useful noninvasive markers to identify greater severity of MASLD. Hepatic elastography plays a relevant role in the screening of patients with metabolic risk, although further studies with larger samples are required to validate these associations.
