Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the frequency of use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its effects on symptoms and perception of well-being in climacteric and menopausal women. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 264 women in climacteric and menopause, assessed through an online questionnaire applied between November 2024 and October 2025. Clinical variables, symptoms, type of HRT, and perception of quality of life were included. The significance level adopted was p < 0.05. Results: The mean age was 54 ± 7.17 years, with menopause at 47.4 ± 5.91 years. The most prevalent symptoms were hot flashes (48.8%), insomnia (22.7%), and irritability (17.7%). Only 41.3% used HRT, with transdermal gel (27.5%) and oral administration (22.9%) being the most commonly used forms. Among non-users, the main reason was the absence of a medical prescription (48.3%). Among users, 80% reported good adaptation and 61.1% a significant improvement in quality of life. Conclusion: HRT showed a positive impact on quality of life and control of climacteric symptoms, but it is still underutilized due to fear of risks and medical hesitancy in prescribing.
