Abstract

Objective: To map the epidemiological behavior of premature mortality due to diabetes mellitus in the world in the literature. Methods: This is a scoping review, according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Manual, following the adapted checklist Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The research question was guided by the Population, Concept, Context (PCC) strategy. The studies analyzed were published in the last 30 years in the PubMed, Embase and Lillacs databases, following the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Of the 71 articles found, 16 were selected for review, with a decreasing trend and stability observed in socioeconomically developed regions and increasing trends in less developed regions. The presence of epidemiological polarization within the same country or federative unit is highlighted. Final considerations: The findings corroborate the need to implement effective actions for the prevention and control of the disease in the country, in order to reduce the impact of premature mortality due to diabetes mellitus on the health of the population.
