Abstract

Objective: To report on the experience of a permanent health education initiative for community health agents (CHAs) from a Family Health Strategy (FHS) center in Belém, about the notions of circle dancing combined with music therapy in caring for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Experience report: This report details the experience of an extension initiative based on the Maguerez Arch, involving nine CHAs from a FHS center in Belém. The first and second stages employed the Circular Process, which is a participatory methodology based on listening and dialogue. Bardin's content analysis was used to create analytical categories from the CHAs’ reflections on the association of music therapy and circle dancing with relaxation and inclusion. However, a lack of information on managing children with ASD was identified as an obstacle, leading to the development of a permanent health education program for the FHS community health agents. Final considerations: It can be concluded that the permanent health education initiative enabled dialogue and collective knowledge building, thereby strengthening the link between the university and the community. Thus, the methodological approach allowed us to understand the CHAs’ reality regarding care for children with ASD.
