Abstract
Objective: To report the case of a 25-year-old patient diagnosed with Krukenberg tumor, a rare gynecological condition. Case details: A 25-year-old female was admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency Room complaining of lower abdominal pain associated with fever, uncontrollable vomiting, and an increase in abdominal volume that had begun one month earlier. Transvaginal ultrasound suggested a tubal ovarian abscess, and the patient underwent laparotomy. A large right ovarian tumor was identified intraoperatively. Surgical pathology revealed a neoplasm with signet-ring cells and immunohistochemistry consistent with Krukenberg tumor. The patient underwent further investigation to evaluate the primary site and underwent chemotherapy. Final considerations: This study revealed that, although it is a more common pathology in the fourth decade of life, it can occur in younger patients, although it accounts for less than 1% of cases. Despite the poor prognosis, survival can be prolonged with surgical and chemotherapy. However, the lack of medical protocols leads to a lack of treatment uniformity.
