Abstract
Objective: To investigate the impacts of protein malnutrition and cannabidiol (CBD) use on the renal function of pregnant women. To evaluate the action of CBD, the influence of a protein-restricted diet on the renal system of pregnant women, and the associated risk factors. Bibliographic review: Proteins are essential for kidney function, especially during pregnancy. Protein malnutrition in pregnant women is associated with increased oxidative stress and inflammation, factors that can impair maternal kidney function and hinder fetal development. CBD, a compound extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant, with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, has been suggested as a potential therapeutic agent to reduce these damages. CBD exerts its functions by modulating the endocannabinoid system (ECS), reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting inflammatory pathways. Its antioxidant action occurs by neutralizing free radicals, thus protecting cells from damage. Final considerations: Although studies have shown herbal properties of CBD, its effectiveness and safety during pregnancy are still not fully understood. Experimental and clinical research is essential to clarify its effects and enable more effective therapeutic interventions.
