Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of low-level laser therapy on autoimmune diseases. Methods: This study was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, covering publications from 1993 to 2022 indexed in the MEDLINE, LILACS, PEDro, Cochrane Library, and SciELO databases. Descriptors such as “laser therapy” and “Autoimmune Diseases” were used and combined using Boolean operators. Relevant clinical trials were included, while incomplete or duplicate studies were excluded. Randomized and non-randomized clinical trials available in full text, published in Portuguese and English, were included, whereas duplicate studies, incomplete articles, or those not directly addressing the proposed topic were excluded. Results: After the screening and eligibility stages, five studies were included in the final analysis. The findings indicated that low-level laser therapy demonstrated anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and immunomodulatory effects, contributing to pain reduction, functional improvement, and enhanced quality of life in patients. Final considerations: Low-level laser therapy appears to be a promising alternative for the management of autoimmune diseases. However, further studies with larger sample sizes and standardized application protocols are required to strengthen the scientific evidence.
