Abstract
Objective: To describe a patient with renal cell carcinoma and a solitary functioning kidney who underwent partial nephrectomy. Case details: This is a case report of a 67-year-old patient with a solitary functioning kidney and a diagnosis of clear cell carcinoma in the right kidney who underwent partial nephrectomy in the Amazon region. The procedure was performed via open surgery, with a 40-minute cold ischemia period and a safety nephrostomy. Postoperatively, the patient developed transient acute kidney injury, but did not require dialysis, with progressive improvement in renal function. Histopathology confirmed clear cell carcinoma (pT1b), with no evidence of tumor recurrence during one year of oncological follow-up. Final considerations: This case demonstrates the effectiveness of partial nephrectomy as a safe and effective measure in patients with a solitary kidney and localized renal neoplasia, reconciling the maintenance of organ function and adequate oncological management, even in scenarios with limited resources.
