Abstract
Objective: To conduct an integrative review of the literature on anatomical predilection, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic strategies related to breast cancer metastases in the head and neck region. Methods: The review was conducted in stages: formulation of the guiding question, search in the Medline/PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and PsycINFO databases, selection and extraction of data, critical analysis of the included studies, interpretation, and presentation of findings. Controlled descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) were used, combined by the Boolean operator “AND”. Results: Thirty-five studies were selected. It was observed that breast cancer metastases to the head and neck are rare events, as is supraclavicular involvement. However, among women, breast cancer stands out as the most frequent infraclavicular primary site associated with metastases in this region. Clinical manifestations may be nonspecific, contributing to late diagnoses and challenges in differentiating between primary and metastatic lesions. Final considerations: Professionals such as head and neck surgeons and dental surgeons should perform a detailed medical history and rigorous evaluation of clinical and radiographic findings. Signs such as paresthesia of the lip and chin deserve attention, as they may represent early manifestations of metastasis and aid in the differential diagnosis of oral lesions.
