Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impacts of physical activity on the prevention of metabolic syndrome, relating its effects on reducing the risk factors that contribute to this comorbidity. Methods: This is a descriptive bibliographic study based on the methodology of an integrative review of the scientific literature, conducted by searching for articles published between 2019 and 2024 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and the PubMED and SciELO databases. Results: The results of the 16 selected articles showed that insufficient physical activity and prolonged sedentary behavior do increase the chances of developing metabolic syndrome. In addition, physical activity in the leisure domain had significant effects on reducing the cardiometabolic markers that characterize this condition. Final considerations: It is concluded that metabolic syndrome is a public health problem that deserves attention, making the adoption of preventive strategies essential. These measures include physical activity practiced at the recommended intensity and a reduction in sedentary behavior to achieve impacts on the control and prevention of this comorbidity.
