Abstract

Objective: To analyze the prevalence of stroke in the state of Pará between 2019 and 2023, identifying regional and temporal patterns. Methods: A descriptive and quantitative epidemiological study using secondary data from the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System and the Hospital Information System (DATASUS/SIH-SUS). Prevalence was calculated as (cases/population) × 100, and risk levels were classified into tertiles. Results: A total of 14,263 cases were recorded in 18 municipalities of the state of Pará, with a progressive increase of 31.7% in cases, peaking in 2023 with 3,558 cases. The Metropolitan Region of Belém accounted for 35% of the cases, while municipalities such as Capanema (0.84%) and Castanhal (0.74%) presented the highest prevalence rates. Individuals aged 60 years or older represented 70.1% of cases, and males predominated (52.1%). Conclusion: Regional disparities and factors such as post-pandemic underreporting highlight the need for public policies targeted at high-risk regions, with emphasis on the prevention of modifiable risk factors (arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus) and the strengthening of Primary Health Care.
