Abstract
Objective: To identify Brazilian scientific evidence on the role of nurses as leaders in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Methods: An integrative review was conducted using SCIELO and BVS databases, guided by the following question: How does the nurse exercise leadership in the ICU? The search was carried out in July 2024, using the following descriptors: "Leadership," "Intensive Care Unit," and "Nursing". Results: From a total of 104 publications, the sample consisted of eight articles. The first category identified was "Leadership Styles in the Intensive Care Unit," which explored the forms of leadership present in the ICU environment. The second category was "The Nurse's Work Process as a Leader in the Intensive Care Unit," which addressed how leadership influences the work process of nurses working in the ICU. Final considerations: The importance of the nurse's leadership role in the ICU is emphasized. Knowing how to exercise flexible leadership, with clear and effective communication, and valuing your team are essential aspects for improving the quality of care provided.
