Abstract
Objective: To analyze self-assessment of risks and aggravating factors related to non-communicable chronic diseases, with emphasis on arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndrome. Methods: An integrative review was conducted using searches in the CAPES Periodicals Portal, LILACS, MEDLINE via the Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), and Web of Science. Controlled descriptors from DeCS and MeSH were combined using Boolean operators AND and OR. Articles published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish between 2019 and 2024 were included. Results: The analyzed studies highlighted gender and lifestyle as relevant determinants for the development of these conditions, with higher vulnerability among men, mainly associated with risk behaviors such as alcohol and tobacco consumption. Risk stratification tools, including the Framingham Risk Score and continuous glucose monitoring, proved effective for early risk identification and management, reinforcing the importance of self-assessment and preventive interventions. Conclusion: Evidence indicates that preventive strategies based on self-assessment and the promotion of healthy lifestyles contribute to reducing the burden of chronic non-communicable diseases; however, methodological heterogeneity among the included studies represents a limitation.
