Abstract

Objective: To analyze and synthesize the scientific evidence available in the literature regarding the social, legal, and institutional challenges faced by transgender men in the exercise of fatherhood/motherhood. Methods: This study consists of an Integrative Literature Review (ILR) of an exploratory nature with a qualitative approach. The search for scientific evidence was conducted in the PubMed, CAPES Journals Portal, and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). A total of 3,078 records were identified, and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 07 studies comprised the final sample. Results: The analysis allowed the construction of three categories: (1) psychosocial and identity-related aspects of pregnancy among transgender men; (2) legal challenges and legal recognition of parenthood; and (3) parental bonding and the experience of parenthood. The findings reveal negligence of legally guaranteed rights, institutional invisibility, negative impacts on mental health, and the absence of adequate legal and care-related support, demonstrating that the parenthood of transgender men remains marked by stigma, exclusion, and denial. Final considerations: There is an urgent need to reform legal regulations and institutional health practices in order to ensure reproductive justice and the full recognition of the diversity of transmasculine parental experiences.
