Abstract
Objective: To understand the psychological and emotional repercussions in women undergoing treatment for assisted human reproduction (AHR). Methods: This is an integrative literature review, conducted between November 2024 and May 2025, based on PRISMA guidelines. Searches were conducted in the databases PubMed, BVS, CAPES, and SciELO, using descriptors in Portuguese and English related to infertility, reproductive techniques, and emotional aspects. Scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, available in full text in Portuguese or English, were included. Results: Infertility, especially when treated with AHR methods, causes psychological suffering in women, with symptoms such as depression, anxiety, guilt, and hopelessness. Studies show that the diagnosis and the fertilization process influence emotional well-being, being intensified by factors such as social stigma, family pressure, and frustrations with therapeutic failures. Strategies such as psychological support, cognitive-behavioral interventions, integrative practices, and attention to spirituality have proven effective in minimizing suffering. Final considerations: Studies indicate that infertility requires a comprehensive approach that considers the emotional and psychological impacts of treatment. Continuous and humanized psychological support is essential to improve the quality of life of women in ART.
