Abstract

Objective: Identify the relationship between pesticide use and the average rate of spontaneous abortion in the state of Mato Grosso between 2019 and 2023. Methods: This is an ecological study based on secondary data on hospitalizations for spontaneous abortions and estimates of pesticide consumption by municipality. The average hospitalization rate was calculated considering women aged 10 to 49 years. The annual percentage change in cases. Results: A total of 19,324 cases were recorded, mostly among brown women aged 20 to 29 years. A percentage increase of 4.34% was observed. In addition, more than 254 million liters of pesticides were used. Among the municipalities with the highest consumption, Sorriso and Sapezal stand out, with abortion rates reaching 60/10,000 women. Spatial distribution revealed an overlap of higher consumption and rates in some municipalities, especially those in the Central-South, Southeast, and part of the Mid-North regions. Conclusion: The need is notedIt there is a need to adopt public measures that promote healthy and sustainable territories that protect the reproductive health of women living in municipalities with large agricultural production.
