Abstract

Objective: To analyze the socio-epidemiological profiles and regional distribution of Chikungunya, a neglected tropical disease, in southern Brazil from 2015 to 2025. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, based on data from the SUS Open Data Portal – SINAN/Chikungunya Fever for the analysis of confirmed cases and socio-epidemiological variables. Results: A total of 10,067 confirmed cases of this arbovirus disease were recorded in southern Brazil between 2015 and 2025, with a progressive increase peaking in 2025. A predominance was observed among females (59.35%) and a higher incidence among adults aged 30 to 59 years (49.64%). Regarding educational attainment, a higher frequency was noted among individuals with a high school diploma (16%), and regarding skin color, there was a predominance of white individuals (69.33%). The states presented high human development indices (0.746 to 0.792) and moderate income inequality (0.41 to 0.49). Conclusion: Chikungunya in the South shows temporal growth and a profile associated with socioeconomic and demographic factors, with higher incidence among women, adults, and individuals with limited access to information. The persistence of social inequalities contributes to transmission, highlighting the need for public health surveillance and control strategies that address regional inequities.
