Abstract
Objective: To report the rehabilitation of a patient with an oronasal communication through the development of an intraoral obturator device fabricated using a digital workflow and 3D printing in biocompatible resin, evaluating its adaptation, functionality, and impact on quality of life. Case report: This is a clinical case report involving a 66-year-old female patient presenting with an oronasal communication after failure of two previous reconstructive surgical procedures. Digital planning was performed based on computed tomography scans and intraoral scanning. The obturator device was designed using CAD software and manufactured with a 3D printer using biocompatible resin. After fabrication, the device was installed and evaluated regarding clinical adaptation, stability, retention, and restoration of speech and swallowing functions. The obturator was intraorally adjusted, confirming complete sealing of the defect and comfort during phonation and deglutition. Final considerations: The integrated use of digital planning and 3D printing proved to be an effective rehabilitative alternative, representing a promising advancement in the management of complex maxillofacial defects.
