Abstract
Objective: To analyze the perceptions of patients with chronic wounds regarding the repercussions of the disease on their daily lives. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study was conducted in the chronic wound outpatient clinic of a teaching clinic located in the Central-West region of Paraná. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with patients undergoing outpatient follow-up and analyzed using Thematic Content Analysis. Results: Ten patients participated, predominantly male, aged between 38 and 75 years, with wound duration ranging from 3 months to 30 years. The analysis allowed the construction of thematic categories: implications of chronic wounds on quality of life; emotional and psychological aspects associated with the condition; and experiences related to treatment and care received. The accounts indicated persistent pain, functional limitations, emotional suffering, social embarrassment, and difficulties in performing daily activities, as well as distinct perceptions about the care received in health services. Conclusion: Chronic wounds have multidimensional repercussions, impacting physical, emotional, social, and self-care components, highlighting the need for comprehensive care guided by humanized practices capable of integrating clinical wound treatment with psychological and social support, promoting improved quality of life and strengthening self-care.
