Abstract
Objective: To analyze the current state of knowledge regarding education and professional training in pediatric palliative care. Methods: An integrative review was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Virtual Health Library, and Scientific Electronic Library Online databases between February and October 2025, using the descriptors "palliative care," "pediatric," and "education." Articles published between 2013 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, addressing education or professional training in pediatric palliative care were included. Results: Nine articles were included, published between 2017 and 2025. Educational programs showed an increase of 86% to 90% in knowledge after training, while 71% to 85% of participants reported changes in clinical practice. The Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care–Pediatrics program showed that 84.3% acquired new knowledge, 86.2% reported improved competencies, and 85.1% changed their practice. Among Italian residents, correct answers in assessments increased from 22.5% to 90.4%. It was observed that 46.7% of nursing professionals do not understand the objectives of pediatric palliative care and that 82.4% of subspecialties do not offer training in this area. Final considerations: Education in pediatric palliative care is essential for healthcare training, improving the quality of care. However, structural and cultural challenges persist, such as gaps in training and lack of curricular standardization.
