Abstract
Objective: To analyze the association between sleep quality and symptoms of anxiety and depression in adolescent athletes, as well as to identify the prevalence of these symptoms and describe sleep patterns in this population. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted through searches in the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), PubMed, and Scopus databases, with no restrictions on publication period or language. The descriptors Anxiety, Depression, Athletes, Sleep Quality, and Adolescent were used. A total of 236 studies were initially identified, of which 21 met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. Results: The analyzed studies showed that sleep quality among adolescent athletes is variable and often characterized by insufficient duration and poor quality, especially in contexts of high training load. The presence of anxiety and depressive symptoms was also observed, with prevalence influenced by factors such as sex, sport modality, and competitive level. Most studies identified an association between poorer sleep quality and higher levels of psychological symptoms. Final considerations: There is a consistent association between sleep quality and mental health in adolescent athletes. However, the causal nature of this relationship is not yet fully established, highlighting the need for longitudinal studies and greater methodological standardization.
