Abstract
Objective: To explain a case report of an outbreak that occurred in the municipality of Macapá, Amapá state, in the far north of Brazil. Methods: Use of a report from the state's National Hospital Epidemiological Surveillance Network on the occurrence of an outbreak. Use of complementary data available in SINAN/AP – National System of Notifiable Diseases and GAL/AP – Laboratory Environment Manager for confirmation of the outbreak. Results: Autochthonous cases were identified in 2 (two) children and 3 (three) adults, characterizing a family outbreak due to its occurrence in defined geographic areas, within a specific time frame, through the ingestion of a common food source. The identified source of infection was raw açaí juice processed in the state of Pará and consumed in the state of Pará. Conclusion: The occurrence of ACD cases in the state of Amapá, especially outbreaks, is a reality that needs to be addressed by sanitary, environmental, entomological and laboratory surveillance together, in addition to health education work aimed at reducing new cases of the disease.
