Abstract

Objective: To report a clinical case of a patient with ascending cervicomastigatorial dysfunction associated with postural changes. Case Details: A 57-year-old female patient presented to the Dental Polyclinic complaining of pain in her upper teeth, morning facial pain, headache, and difficulty eating. Clinical and functional examination revealed limited mouth opening, the presence of trigger points in the masticatory and cervical muscles, as well as postural changes such as forward head posture and postural asymmetry. The patient also reported symptoms of vertigo, tinnitus, and aural fullness. Complementary examinations ruled out odontogenic alterations. Based on the clinical evaluation, a diagnosis of ascending cervicomastigatorial dysfunction was established. Treatment consisted of the use of a lower stabilizing splint, physiotherapy exercises, and infusion of 2% lidocaine into the affected muscles. Final considerations: The adopted therapy promoted a significant improvement in painful symptoms and a reduction in the limitation of mouth opening, demonstrating that conservative and individualized approaches are effective in the management of craniocervicomandibular dysfunction.
