Abstract

Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of malaria in the Lower Amazon region - Pará, from 2003 to 2023. Methods: This is a retrospective, quantitative, time-series ecological study, using secondary data from confirmed malaria cases obtained from the SIVEP-Malaria, provided by the Pará State Department of Public Health (SESPA). The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of UFOPA. Results: A total of 68.752 confirmed cases were recorded during the analyzed period, with higher recorded levels in 2005 and 2007, although the highest incidence rate was observed in 2006 in the municipality of Alenquer. The profile of individuals affected by malaria showed a predominance of males (62.90%), in the 20 to 29 age group (21.46%), mainly among the public that self-identifies as mixed-race (18.73%), although there was a high proportion of missing records, and among the 1st and 4th grades (39.55%), characterizing a pathology in economically active individuals who perform occupations more associated with agricultural activities (31.4%). Conclusion: Malaria in the Lower Amazon presents itself as an endemic disease, strongly related to conditions of social vulnerability and environmental dynamics, which reinforces its profile as a neglected disease.
