Abstract
Objective: To analyze the main preventive strategies for labial angioedema following hyaluronic acid lip filler procedures in Orofacial Harmonization, with emphasis on patient history taking, identification of risk factors, product selection, injection technique, and the dentist's preparedness to manage adverse events. Bibliographic review: Labial angioedema may be triggered by immediate IgE-mediated hypersensitivity or delayed type IV hypersensitivity, and is related to patient-related factors, the product used, and the injection technique employed. Detailed anamnesis, careful product selection, adherence to good clinical practices, and continuing professional education emerge as fundamental pillars of prevention. The review also discusses pre-procedure screening criteria, relative contraindications, product traceability, the importance of informed consent, the need for office preparedness for the early recognition and initial management of adverse events, and the clinical distinction between immediate and delayed reactions and their implications for patient follow-up and management. Final considerations: The prevention of labial angioedema in the context of Orofacial Harmonization depends on qualified and systematic clinical practice before the procedure, with anamnesis being the primary tool available to the specialist dental surgeon.
