Abstract
Objective: To analyze the sanitary conditions of consortium dental units in the Northern Macroregion of Ceará, identifying practices and prevention strategies for patient safety. Methods: A documentary study based on reports and records of sanitary inspections of five regional Dental Specialty Centers, responsible for 55 municipalities. The data, collected between September 2020 and September 2021, were analyzed using thematic content analysis techniques with software support. Results: Vulnerabilities were identified such as the absence of water quality control and periodic cleaning of reservoirs; failures in sterilization monitoring, with the absence of biological and Bowie-Dick tests; structural inadequacies and deficient equipment maintenance; deficiencies in signage and radiological protection; as well as inadequate storage of medical records and the absence of computerized systems. The need for updating occupational health protocols and continuous training of professionals was evident. Conclusion: Structural, organizational, and care improvements are needed to ensure the safety of patients and professionals.
