Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of Chikungunya fever in the municipality of Itabuna, Bahia, Brazil, between 2016 and 2024, with emphasis on sociodemographic variables, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic criteria. Methods: A descriptive and retrospective study based on data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN). Reported cases during the study period were analyzed, and records confirmed by laboratory or clinical-epidemiological criteria were selected after data cleaning. Sociodemographic, clinical variables, comorbidities, and outcomes were evaluated using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and univariate logistic regression (p<0.05). Results: A total of 18,211 suspected cases were reported, of which 5,309 (29.2%) were confirmed. Most cases occurred in women (63.9%), residents of urban areas (89.5%), and were confirmed by clinical-epidemiological criteria (70.7%). The most frequent symptoms were arthralgia (72.9%), fever (67.6%), and myalgia (60.4%). A peak in cases occurred in 2016, with a new increase in 2023. High incompleteness was observed for variables such as race and education, along with limited serological testing. Conclusion: The profile indicates greater impact among women and urban residents and highlights weaknesses in local epidemiological surveillance, requiring improvements in SINAN and in the diagnostic flow to support more effective local health policies.
