Abstract
Objective: To analyze the efficacy and safety of anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies for the prevention of episodic and chronic migraine, considering their effects on attack frequency, acute medication use, disability and quality of life. Methods: This is an integrative literature review with a descriptive design and qualitative approach, conducted in PubMed, Virtual Health Library and Cochrane Library databases. The guiding question was structured according to the PICO strategy, including adult patients with episodic or chronic migraine, use of erenumab, fremanezumab, galcanezumab or eptinezumab, comparison with placebo or conventional preventive treatments, and clinical, functional and safety outcomes. Full-text original articles were included, resulting in 16 selected studies. Results: Anti-CGRP antibodies reduced monthly migraine and headache days, increased clinical response rates, decreased acute medication use and improved functional outcomes. The most frequent adverse events were injection-site reactions, nasopharyngitis, fatigue and constipation. Final considerations: Anti-CGRP antibodies show favorable evidence for migraine prevention and an acceptable safety profile in the studies analyzed, although longer follow-up in special populations is required.
