Abstract
Objective: To report a clinical case of ovarian vein thrombophlebitis in a pregnant woman treated at the gynecology and obstetrics department of a hospital in Araguaína, Tocantins, highlighting the clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects related to the condition. Case details: Ovarian vein thrombophlebitis is a rare condition associated with pregnancy and the puerperal period, characterized by thrombus formation in the ovarian vein associated with vascular inflammation. The condition presents with nonspecific clinical manifestations, which may make diagnosis difficult and lead to potentially severe complications, such as thrombus extension, pulmonary embolism, sepsis, and death. Diagnosis requires correlation between clinical findings and imaging studies, with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging being important tools for diagnostic confirmation. Treatment involves anticoagulation and antibiotic therapy, according to the clinical presentation and individual assessment of the patient. Final considerations: Ovarian vein thrombophlebitis should be considered in the presence of compatible manifestations during pregnancy and the puerperium, particularly due to the possibility of progression to severe complications. Early recognition and appropriate treatment are essential to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.
